XP startup - mouse and keyboard stops responding

Xp Home suddenly stop accepting input from mouse and keyboard. Upon restart
(hard shutdown with power button) I either get a blue screen indiefinitely or
if XP does startup I cannot get past the logon screen because keyboard and
mouse do not work. COnfirmed everything is plugged in .

Dell wants to re-install XP.

Need help getting to files for back up prior to reinstall

Rick - doesn't say anything - just sits there like it's hung up. WOn't
accept any inpout except power button hard shutdown.

Hi Shawan,

I would load the Recovery Console and run a chkdsk C: /r

Your Dell disk may not provide for this, so you may need to do it using the
boot disk set.
