Microsoft download notifications tells me to download SP2. I follow
instructions and find that SP2 is NOT an item listed in available downloads
Should I have SP2?
Do I need SP2?

Since you've posted in a newsgroup for the Vista operating system, the
answer is: you don't need Windows XP Service Pack 2 if you are running
Vista.

If you are running XP, then yes - you do need SP2.

Perhaps you could give more details about exactly what "Microsoft
download notifications" are telling you to do.

I just downloaded SP3 release candidate for Windows XP, and installed it in
a virtual computer.
I don't know yet if I will install it on my Windows XP machines as it isn't
the final release version.
