It's hard to know, some people claim that it has caused errors to their
computer, wheras others have found it improves their computing experience. If
you prefer to have your PC up to date and have better security, go for it. If
you're worried that it may interfere with a program that involves sharing
files and downloads over the internet then wait and see.

Horror stories mostly come from amateurs, serious.
I'm not an amateur, I'm a pro and I can tell you that there might be some
glitches here and there that can be easily solved, but in general you won't
have to many problems.

One important thing I want to mention though;

1) an unstable system can have a bad effect on the update
2) close ALL programs and processes that are not related to Windows as
Microsoft advices (very important and something most amateurs ignore!)
3) Better to reinstall everything and to start from scratch
4) Even better; reinstall Windows with a CD that has SP2 embedded

I did #4 and after 2 weeks I still have to find something that doesn't work.
SP2 runs great on my machine.

Good luck

What exactly do you recall THAT you have not heard horror stuff about? I
downloaded the Network Pack, installed it, had one problem in that the OS
briefly tried to lose the Hard Disk [C] which I fixed by tinkering around
briefly in the properties section of the Disk. After that, no problem that I
can discern.

You always will. Some people don't know enough, some people look for
vulnerabilities etc etc. You have to sift through and know what you are
looking for.

Eg, I have had Zone Alarm Pro for some time and still have some time to go
on the licence. I didn't feel like NOT using that time. However, I also like
to have the XP firewall on for times I want ZAP out of the way. Both turned
ON and working at the same time is fine. Works OK here.

There are some inconsistencies with certain programs and hardware.
Unfortunately, you are going to have to wait for those updates to come out
so if you have something critical, make sure it works with SP2 before you
install it. All I ended up with as a problem was Gearsec not working. I have
to wait for ATI to issue updated drivers, no doubt.

John, I find your comments Insulting, I am a amateur, and I know hundreds of
PC users all over the world, and they are all amateurs, I don't know of one
single pro, (tells a story) I always thought that the PC was manufactured for
the amateur, not the pro's, if the so called amateur did not buy and use
theses PC's and the assoiciated software, there would not be many PC's or
pro's about, when you think about it, microsoft employ so called pro's to do
this XP2 thingy, well no wonder it doesn't work most of the time, so maybe as
a pro, you can get mine to work, because i'm one of the amateurs that can't
get the new SP2 to work, and I badly need a pro to help, well?
