XP SP2 Very slow Internet connection speed

G

GeIn

Please help !!! Like many others I have a big problem with the
internet connection speed after installing SP2.

This is what I did to try to solve it;

1.
Rebuild my machine with only XP home UK and the necessary hardware
drivers (all the latest versions).

2.
Tested the internet connection -> Perfect

3.
Installed SP2, and disabled the MS firewall

4.
Tested the internet connection -> Very very slow.

All which has been installed apart from XP and SP2;
- ALi USB Driver for a PCI USB 2.0 controller
- Realtek AC'97 drivers for an on board sound card
- NVIDIA drivers/software for my Ti 4600

Other hardware installed;
- 3COM 2C910 on board NIC
- Promise Ultra 133 TX2 IDE controller
- Creative SB Live!
- Intel 536EP V90 modem

Anyone any ideas ?

Thx in advance,
GeIn

That's the new security feature. The hackers will become so bored waiting
for your system that they will go somewhere else.

Just kidding. But you must see from all the problems that SP2 is not quite
ready for prime time yet. Wait a few months and try again.

The same happened to me, that and a complete slowdown of the entire
system. I really regret putting SP2 on my comp and am now in the
process of removing it. I've been sitting here for 45 minutes looking
at the uninstall telling me 'Inspecting current configuration', so I
don't know for sure if its actually going to uninstall or just screw
things up even worse.
This computer ran *so* well before sp2.
Its like buying fancy new tires and wheels for your car and finding
that all they do is make it slower..

Since SP2 my machine runs so much better...it is like having a NEW
computer. If you follow the pre-install preparations posted continuously
on this forum and on the Microsoft site, there should be few if any
problems.

I have a similar problem. My internet connection speed has slowed down
considerably. When I check my connection status I can see that
'something' is downloading - the bytes received counter is increasing
at quite a fast rate. I have disabled windows updates and I don't have
any other internet-enabled software running (like Real) and I have
shut down IE. I have switched the XP firewall on and off - this makes
no difference. My system is clean of Spyware and my anitvirus is up to
date.

Is there anyway of monitoring exactly what is being up/down loaded?

Your lucky..lol I followed all the pre-inst preps I could find and
still had major probs. Last night I finally got sp2 out and now the
comp is running just fine again.
No wonder I use Linux more and more every day..
