XP SP2 prevents Word opening sent-from-mobile documents

I've already posted this on the Windows XP newsgroup but, despite receiving
some excellent suggestions, have so far got no further.

We have an XP machine that receives documents from Nokia / Orange
communicators as e-mail attachments in the UK. I believe that these
attachments are created on the communicator as EPOC documents and are then
saved as Word 97 (or Word 2000, etc.) documents. These are then e-mailed to
the XP machine where they are opened in Word. This used to work fine.

Since Service Pack 2 was installed for Windows XP these documents cannot be
opened. A message is shown when the attachment is opened, either via Outlook
Express or by saving the file first, saying .....

The document name or path is invalid. Try these suggestions.
* Check the file permissions for the document or drive
* Use the File Open dialog box to locate the document.
(C:\...\Test Page.doc)

The document details are correct - the file is definately there, and when
using the File Open dialog to open the file through Word the same message
appears.

Service Pack 2 is all that has changed since it last worked. We have also
tried this on a couple of other PCs, one an XP Service Pack 1, the other an
XP Service Pack 2 and it will work on the SP1 but not the SP2.

We've already tried unblocking the file, transferring ownership of the file
and allowing active content to run in files on the PC.

Thanks in advance of any assistance and / or suggestions.

Are you trying to open the file directly from the email? This is never a
good idea for a variety of reasons. Have you tried saving the file to a Word
document folder and then opening it from there?

Hi Suzanne, thanks for your response.

We've tried opening the file in every way we can; both from the e-mail and
saving the file to disk / document foider. The same applies whichever way it
is opened.

Regards,
Darren.
