XP SP2 monitor resolution error

Every time I recover from Hibernate or Sleep after a few
mouse clicks the monitor reverts to 640x480. When I go to
Control Panel/Display/Settings and move to 1024x768 the
monitor temporarily accepts the change then reverts to
640x480.

If I Turn Off Computer in Restart or a cold boot there is
no problem. I have a ViewSonic VE510+ monitor and
installed the 8/4/2004 driver update.

How do I solve this problem?

Forgot to add that the error message I receive begins
ialman5 display driver... Googling the error did not
find a solution for me.
