XP SP2 boot loop

J

James

Hello,

I downloaded the network install from MS.
After installed SP2, the system reboots after BAD_POOL_HEADER, STOP
0x00000019.
Can't boot into save mode or VGA mode.
It's a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop.
I had Daemon Tool installed so it gave me error back up atapi.sys
when I installed the SP2, so I skip the file.
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this?
I know I should've waited, but I just couldn't resist.
Thanks.

James

1. Perform a "Repair Install".
2. Uninstall Daemon Tools program.
3. Perform a Disk Cleanup.
4. Perform a Check Disk.
5. Disable your antivirus program.
6. Install SP2.
7. Perform a Defrag of the hard drive.

Thanks for replying.
I already did a Repair Install.
After that the blue screen flashes even quicker that I can't get the error
message.
I am doing a Clean Install then apply SP2 before installing any other
programs.
Hopefully SP2 will install without a problem.

Hi,

I had a similar problem on my Gateway laptop after installing SP2.
I would get BSOD with BAD_POOL_HEADER and a stop 0x00000019.

The problem was a service called Spectrum24 Event Monitor
(S24EvMon.exe) from Intel. When this service was disabled I was able
to run normally. I suspect this is part of the Intel ProSet drivers
for an Intel network card (I have a PRO/100 VE and 2100 wireless)

Of course, I was able to boot into safe mode to figure that out. So
far no apparent I'll effects from not running it but I'm using Windows
wireless drivers.

I hear what you're saying. The SP2 fails and goes into the same error loop
with all of our Dell C810 laptops. Since we use the automatic updates, we're
forced to install the SP2 blocker.

For about the last three weeks, I periodically received the BSOD with
a C05 stop. Prior to this I had downloaded a driver upgrade for my
Intel Pro Wireless 2100 3B Mini PCI Adaptor from HP (I own a Pavilion
zt3010us laptop). The Spectrum24 Event Monitor came with the driver
upgrade. Nothing I tried corrected the problem. I subsequently
upgraded to XP SP2. My BSOD changed from the C05 stop to the
0x00000019 stop immediately after upgrade.

Thanks to this post, I disabled the Spectrum24 Event Monitor service
and for the past day and a half, no BSOD. If my system remains stable
for another few days, I will notify Intel and HP of the issue.

Thanks Gord!
