XP sound issues

i've been through 2 soundcards (and driver updates for
both of them), and XP is still giving me trouble.

on my second reboot after driver installation, my
computer will either lockup whilst loading windows (that
was with the audigy card). now i'm using my motherboard's
(kt4 ultra) built-in sound card (which goes by the name c-
media), and i have sound. i can get into windows. but i
cant run any games; they lock up (all because of a sound
issue). its not the drivers. ive ruled them out in every
possible way. its some registry issue with windows.
sometimes i could reboot, and windows would give me a
message saying a registry file was not found but was
successfully recovered.

anyone have any ideas? the culprit is either XP or this
WDM-based device that was having errors. but everytime i
fix that, it finds a way to give me trouble again.

I'm using the C-media sound on my MSI motherboard. I am
having some issues too. I found that directx is not
properly installed and am attempting to resolve that
issues. Currently when I reinstall directx, it acts like
it does it but doesn't actually copy any files.

Run 'dxdiag.exe' to determine if directx is properly
installed on your machine.

Hope this helps!
