XP slow shutdown

whenever I shutdown normally (Start>Turn Off
Computer>Restart) my computer will just hang there for
about one minute. the harddrive is not reading anything
and no splash screens are coming up, it just sits there
completely idle.

i tried to use the help center to fix the problem by
modifying the startup and shutdown options in the
msconfig dialog box but that only slow my computer even
more.

i also tried to download some vbs and reg scripts but
nothing helped with those either.

any ideas?

thanks all!

Sounds a lot like my XP. Microsoft focused on booting up XP
fast, they did not care about shutting it down. It does the
same thing for me, I believe that it is normal.

"no splash screens are coming up"

that is confusing... do you mean there is nothing on your
screen when you shutdown?
