XP Shutdown problem

I have just taken delivey of a new IBM Thinkpad T30 with
XP prof installed. It works perfectly except for on
shutdown I get the following blue screen error:
winarp.sys - address F867ADE2 base at F8676000, datestamp
3b7d84bb STOP 0x000000D1, (0x0000001b, 0x00000002,
0x00000001,0xF867ADE2) Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
Can anyone tell me if this indicative of something that
will become terminal, whether it can be cured or whether
I will just have to live with it? I don't wish to return
my Thinkpad to the supplier if I can possibly avoid it.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Mark,

Sure you got that file name right? I can't find any mention of a winarp.sys.

Other than that, I'd say your problem is related to audio drivers, yours may
require an update.

Hi Rick,

Yep that error message is correct - winarp.sys! Since I
posted this note I have managed to download all of the
Microsoft updates and something has repaired something!
Appears like smoke and mirror magic to me.

I had another interesting problem getting the auto
updates to install until I discovered that for some
unknown reason the services in services.msc that handle
this were turned off! Why IBM should ship a configured
laptop to a customer with these vital featutres disabled
is beyond me!

However all is fine a dandy now and I can get back to the
real world. Cheers, Mark.
