Xp shut down - error message Rpc call service terminated

Hi there,
Any help would be appreciated.

I have Windows Xp Home - and I am experiencing random
restarts when on the internet - downloading.

The error message I am getting is something along the
lines of

" Windows is shutting down due to something blah blah NT
Authority\System. Save all your work blah blah...

Blah blah failure RPC Procedure Call Service was
terminated unexpectedly"

Unfortunately I cannot install Windows Xp updates or
update anti-virus due to constant crashes.

Any Advice???
