XP service pack1 causing cd to lockup pc

I loaded XP professional on a newly built pc. Everything
had checked out and was fully functional until I
installed service pack 1a. As soon as I did that, I
started having problems with my cd/dvd combo burner. Its
a Pioneer DVR-106D, and I had tested it completely before
all this. I've tried installing all updates and fixes
from Win-update, to no avail. As soon as I remove SP1,
all is good again. With SP1 installed, music cd's and
movie DVD's seem to be fine, but any data cd's, including
my XP cd, just cause the pc to lockup. I've got to hit
the hardware reset to shake it loose.

Try deleting your sound/audio drivers and then reinstalling them. Also look
for a driver update from the CD manufacturer.

CD manufacturer says to use the XP drivers. Music CD's
and movie DVD's play fine, its the data CD's that cause
the pc to hang. What will reinstalling audit drivers do?
