XP Service Pack 2

I downloaded XP Service Pack 2 because it
said "critical." Really??? I have very adequate and up-
to-date virus protection. Why do I need Service Pack 2?

I did not ask for your cute, little shield in my system
tray. I do not want the stupid balloon that pops up
everytime I startup. Can I get rid of these rediculous
features?

Is there anything valuable in this Service Pack 2, or
should I simply uninstall the whole thing? Is there a
trick to truly getting rid of it?

Control Panel/Security Center, click on the "Change the Way Security
Center Notifies Me" link in the left pane.
