XP sends and receives, Vista only receives.

Running OL2007 (12.0.4518.1014) under WinXP Home SP3 and Vista Home Premium
SP2.

OL versions are *identical*, as are the four mail account setups, but Vista
is accumulating emails in the Outbox -- itallicized, but going nowhere.
What did I miss?

Hard to say without any configuration information.
For starters; which mail account types are you using?
Also, do you get any send/receive errors?

It could be anything really. Misconfigured firewall perhaps?
Also, if you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook,
disable/uninstall this integration and try again.
See http://www.msoutlook.info/question/20

Also note that you are behind with updating Office 2007. Your version
indicates that no update whatsoever has been installed for it. Service Pack
2 has been released already.

First of all, I don't know what happened, but Vista's Outbox finally
released all its captives; but I'll answer your questions anyway, and add a
couple of my own.

POP3 in, and SMTP out via att.net.

I'm using Onecare on both systems. No apparent problems in the past.

1) I have never installed or used MS office in its entirety. I only
installed OL2007 on its own and had a tremendous battle doing that. I think
my life would have been easier if I had just dealt with the whole MS Office
package. Next time I will. For the record, my start menu does show under
MS Office: MS Office OL2007; Re-install MS Offie Pro 2007 Trial; and MS
Offiice Tools.

3) I saw the SP2 update, but it seemed to be addressed to the entire MS
Office package. Being somewhat war-torn after trying to trying to install
OL2007 without first uninstalling the MSOffice trial version, I was
concerned about the possibility of updates to stuff I didn't have.

QUESTIONS:
Is it okay to run the SP2 update, in view of the applications I *don't*
have?

I have two data files. When I look at the Personal Folders via Control
Panel, one of them shows the format as "Personal Folders File", while the
other says the same plus "(97-2002)". What's the significance of this and
should I change something?

Thank you for your help.

Items added programmatically to the Outbox folder are not sent until the
next time you *load* Outlook. When you add items programmatically, like
using a mailto: shortcut or a File -> Send to E-mail menu in an app,
only a stub of Outlook gets loaded which is sufficient to load the
new-mail compose window, allow editing, and save the item in the Outbox
folder. Once that window is closed, the stub of Outlook closes. Since
Outlook is not running, it can't send anything. Because the items were
added programmatically, there is no trigger to Outlook when you load it
next time that a new item was just added to the Outbox folder. It is
when the item gets added that Outlook gets triggered to do the send.
Since the item was added when Outlook was not running, the event of
adding the item doesn't exist when Outlook is running next time.

If you want items to get sent immediately then you need to have Outlook
running at the time you create the new item and send it.

Good to hear that the main issue solved itself :)

1) You are saying you have bought the full version of Outlook and at the
same time have the trial version installed for Office 2007 Pro? That should
be OK. To get to this point, you need to make sure that you do not install
Outlook when using the installer for Office 2007 Pro. But I assume you
figured that one out already by now ;-)

2) Ehm... you directly skipped to 3 instead ;-)

3a) Yes, you can apply SP2 even if you do not have the other applications.
Note that when you still have the trial installed, you DO have the other
versions installed as well and SP2 will update even the trial version as
well. If you only have Outlook installed, the SP2 still applies and it will
just skip the files meant for the other Office applications.

3b) The 97-2002 file is an ANSI formatted pst-file. The new file format is
in UNICODE. The difference is character support and that UNICODE pst-files
do not max out at 2GB. Unless this is a closed archive, you might want to
upgrade it to a UNICODE formatted pst-file. Note that UNICODE formatted
pst-files can only be read by Outlook 2003 or later.

Yeah, #2 was just FYI. BUT ...

Yesterday, sending was fine. So 25 emails were prepared at 0200 today. At
1700 they were still in the Outbox. I installed SP2 and tried again. Still
there. Just what I love -- intermittent failures! Any ideas? I have one.
If you could just swing by Minneapolis, I know that the mail would go out as
soon as you got within two blocks of our house. :-(

I apologize, this last screwup was my fault. Apparently I have to be more
careful in Account Settings to be consistent with the default settings
between the E-mail tab and the Data Files tab. MS help got me squared away
except for setting the delivery folders for each of the four accounts. I
foolishly told them that I could do that with no problem.
ME AND MY BIG MOUTH. I have four accounts, two for each data file. I
wanted mail for two accounts to be delivered to one inbox, and mail for the
other two accounts to be delivered to the second inbox. Diane herself said
I could do it. I *know* I've done it before, and it worked. BUT...

Now, *everything* was getting delivered to the Inbox folder for the default
sending account (which is fine for two of the accounts), but OL won't let me
change the folder for the two other accounts. I click the account, Change
Folder, and the folder I want to use, but it simply leaves me with no folder
showing at all. What's worse...

The last MS expert working with me under Easy Assist insists that the folder
I specified for *delivery* had to be in the same data file as the folder
marked as default for *sending*. Is he crazy or am I?
