XP Search returns folder names only

We have an XP Pro system that experiences an intermitent Windows Explorer
search problem. Sometimes, the search tool works fine. Other times, a
search will return the folder name of every place the file we're looking for
is found, but the name of the file is not shown.

I've searched the newsgroup and not found anything like this listed. Any
ideas? Also, a respondent to another user's request mentioned running the
Repair utility for Windows Explorer Search. Where is this tool and how do
you launch it?

Thank you,
CM.

Go to MVP Kelly Theriot's website here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

Click on "S" and scroll down for the items relating to Search. There are
instructions how to repair it.

However, I really don't think XP's search capabilities are very good.
Instead, try the free Agent Ransack instead:
http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/

I have it on all my Windows machines and find it invaluable.

Thanks. We have Agent Ransack, but I really want to get this particular
Windows search installation repaired, so I'll try your tips.

Initially, I wasn't sure what "S" you were referring to. I didn't realize
you meant to follow the link to your web site first.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to compile and publish solutions to so
many problems.

I'm not Kelly Theriot. I gave you the link to her website. She has an
area called something like "XP A to Z" and that's why I told you to
click on the "S" - for "Search".
