XP Search Results "In folder" Path data incorrect

Hi Guys & Girls,

Here's a weird one. Has anyone seen it before / know how
to fix it? (Probably not many people would notice it?
Probably only applies to CD-RW equipped systems...???)

The System seems to be re-mapping the CD-RW drive (the
only CD drive on the system in question) to a
subdirectory of the C: drive...???

The symptoms are as follows:

When attemting to Search for a file on the CD drive
(using Search Companion ["Search" button on toolbar] from
a Windows Explorer window) and selecting search for "All
files and folders", keying-in the filename, confirming
that the CD drive is already selected in the "Look in:"
combo box and clicking the "Search" button, the results
displayed for the file path are completely incorrect.

Instead of reporting the file path as D:\AO2003
\Setup\Misc where the file actually is, it reports
the "In folder" path as:

C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning\AO2003
\Setup\Misc .

"Obviously" everything in the path up to \AO2003 is
incorrect and should actually say "D:"

Interestingly, if you right click on the file and show
Properties, the correct path is reported: D:\AO2003...

Similarly, if you hover over the filename, the Tooltip-
style box also shows the correct path.

Weirder still, if you right-click the filename and
select "Open containing folder", what does it do???

It opens the CORRECT folder on the CD, but still
incorrectly reports the PATH to that folder in the
Explorer-style window as:

C:\Documents and Settings\admin\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning\AO2003
\Setup\Misc.

However, if you then click the drop-down button on the
address bar, it shows the path and currently open folder
as the correct one (D:AO2003\Setup\Misc), on the CD...

I think it's Xtremely Peculiar.

Anyone seen it, know how to fix it?

Regards,
Alan Candy

"Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem" on "computers that have a CD-RW drive". For more
