XP scans jpegs in a folder..too long

When I open a folder with JPEG files in it, XP takes time
scanning each file before I can select and drag them into
other folders. Even in "list" mode this occurs and takes
more time if the files are large.
Is there a way to turn off this scan in XP until I have
organized my photo files?

If you selected Photoshop to display the thumbnails, it can be quite slow.
Change it to the default, XP Windows and Fax Viewer and see if this improves
performance. To change it, right click on a photo and click on Open with on
the opening menu. Click on Choose program on the opening list and then
select Windows Picture and Fax viewer and check the box "Always open...."
A second possibility is the amount of RAM memory you have. A minimum of 256
MB is needed to run XP properly with large photo files, better with 512.

Thanks so much. I will try that but I think the file scan
is connected to prepping the files to be viewed with the
Windows picture viewer program. Is there a way to turn
this off?
Thanks again,
Wad
