My friend has a PC running XP. He had a power outage. I put his hard drive in
another computer (I suspect his motherboard is damaged) and it just shows the
Windows had a error starting screen with the 3 Safe Mode options, Last Known
Good, and Start Normally options. If I select any of these, the computer runs
a bit then restarts. I do not see a logon screen, a Windows loading screen,
or a blue screen. If I put the drive in as a slave on a PC with a good drive,
I can access the "bad" drive without any problem. I've tried the method
listed here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310396
but that didn't seem to have any effect. While I'm sure I could save all the
info on the drive and then reinstall the OS, I'd like to try to resolve this
without having to do all that if possible. Any ideas?
