XP Repair

I posted a question earlier concerning performing XP repair with regard to a
computer which boots only to the Safe Mode screen and that an XP repair might
be the solution.
As an alternate fix would an upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro help do the same
thing without a loss of the original programs and personal data files? I do
understand some applications will need to be reinstalled to match Pro.
This PC does not have disks and I'm sure this means it was an OEM setup.

Usually computers (that do not have disks) do have a restore partition on the
hard drive. In the case of HP systems, this is accessible by going to
HPTools in the Start Menu and selecting the appropriate restore option.
