XP Repair not completing

I am unable to complete my repair of XP using the same XP Home Edition CD I
used to install the system. The repair gets to the point where it is copying
files and now it can't seem to read the /i386 files - in particular the
licwmi.dl_ file. I can browse the disk, select this file and click OK, but
the system returns the same "unable to find file" error. My disk is clean,
and the system has obviously copied over files from other directories on this
disk.

I do not have another XP HE available, but I do have an XP Professional
disk. Could I use the XP Professional disk to copy that file or will this
completly screw up the repair? Any other ideas on how to get around this
problem?

File copy problems during XP installation are usually cause by either a
bad/scratched disk, a bad/incompatible CD drive, bad system memory, or a bad
hard drive.
The first question is why are you doing the repair in the first place?

As David mentioned, you need to make sure the Installation media CD not
scratched or have Grease on it by handling it , try to wipe it or clean it
with a makeup damp cotton pad gently!.

You didn't mention why you trying the Repair, what the reason for the repair?.

The disk appears to be in good shape. The CD drive was working fine on the
system and i performed a memory check and it also appered to be good. I'm
repairing the OS because I installed a new motherboard. I was unable to get
the system to boot (it stopped in Safe Mode at the mup driver.) And, just to
clarify, I actually swapped motherboards between 2 systems. The first system
started up fine and I just had to go through some "add new hardware" stuff,
but this second system is giving me a real headache. If I can get through
this repair, I should be OK. So I'm going to try and hunt down another XP
home edition CD, but I think the rest of my copies are all XP Prof.
