XP Reinstallation problem

I had a heat problem with my PC which required a drive change. Now when I
attempt to reinstall XP I get the blue screen of death and an error message
regarding a hardware problem. My PC is a Dell Dimension 4550 and the fan
died. I relaced it with a generic and it does not have the RPM lead for the
mobo. So even though it worked fine for a while, I received an error message
on each boot regarding a fan failure. Could the fan error message be causing
the XP reinstallation to fail thinking that there is a hardware failure!

Are you talking about a cpu fan failure or......?
If its a cpu fan that failed are you sure the cpu or mobo isnt fried?

It was a CPU fan failure, however, the PC has worked since I replaced the
fan. It's just that the fan provides no RPM lead to the mobo so the mobo
continues to report a fan failure. Now when I attempt to reinstalled XP (due
to a different problem) it fails with a message that it is shutting down to
avoid a hardware failure. I was wondering if the install program is checking
for hardware error messages and aborts if certain faults are detected (by the
mobo). If so, how can I get around the reported problem - when I know there
is no problem!

Are there any settings in the bios with regard fan failure/low speed
shutdown.
I have an Asus mobo on one sys in which fan failure is allways reported on
boot, I have to press F1 to continue.
(Sys has controled fan)
