XP Publishing Wizard does not offer option to Resize

Marvin

Hi,

I've got a new PC with WinXP Pro. I'm trying to publish pictures with
the Web Publishing Wizard. I remember on my old PC it used to ask me if
I wanted to resize the pictures before I upload them. Now everything
looks almost the same but this screen never shows up. When I select the
pictures and click Next, it immediately starts uploading them. What is
different? How do I get back the resize dialog?

Thanks a lot!
Marv

==================
Try this, maybe it will restore the option:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

A dialog box should report the following:

"DllRegisterServer in SHIMGVW.DLL succeeded"

==================

Also you may want to give the following
free PowerToy a try:

OK, go to the following link and download and
install: ImageResizer.exe

http://tinyurl.com/36n

Then you can open any folder that contains
images and you will have an option to resize.
Just right click the selected image files and
choose Resize Pictures from the menu. You
can select one image or a whole group.

The program will place the resized copies in
the folder with your originals.
(Tip: *Never* overwrite your originals)

BTW...when resizing if you go to...Advanced
Button / Custom...and enter 640 in each field...
that will be a good size for e-mail purposes.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply.

Before I attempt the regserv, can you explain what it does? I came
across a few link on Microsoft's KB and they all discussed the Image
Preview Feature, not the Publishing Wizard. I am able to preview images
and see them as slide shows.

I do have most of the PowerToys for Windows XP installed. I can
right-mouse-click on a JPG and can resize it. This works fine. I don't
know if there's a link between the Publishing wizard and ImageResize but
the only thing that mysteriously does not show up here is the Image
Resize prompt under the Publishing Wizard. It used to show up right
before it'd start uploading the pictures. It was the last question -
what size. Now it's gone.

Thanks,
Marv

What it does is register the
SHIMGVW.DLL file. Maybe
that's not your problem but it
shouldn't hurt to try it.

Thanks Ramesh. It works now and I don't know why. Yesterday I was able
to click "Next" on the wizard while it was uploading. Today it's grayed
out until it completes the upload and the resize window is there. I
guess WinXP was flaky and the reboot helped. Anyhow, I'll grab the tools
from your post just in case I need to fix associations in the future.

Cheers,
Marv
