XP Problem - toolbar changing path of assigned macros

Carolyn Seton

I am having problems with running a toolbar in XP. The
same toolbar works fine on 97 and 2000 but the following
happens in XP. The toolbar was loaded from an XLA file in
the XLStart dir and is called AIPLSS.XLA.

I have NOT put this XLA file into any of the XLStart
directories other than the ones under C:\Program
Files\......\Office*\XLSTART. (It was never put in
C:\Docum...Settings\...\Excel\XLSTART)

The first time I use one of the menu items on the toolbar,
it works. If I then exit from Excel and reload, then go
to use the same function again, it says the standard
message about not being able to have 2 copies of the same
file name open at once. The file this refers to is my
XLSTART/AIPLSS.XLA file. There was only 1 copy of this in
the XLSTART directories.

Once it has failed, if I go in to customise the toolbar, I
can see that path of assigned macros has been changed.
Previously, the assigned macro said just the macro name.
After the problem/second use, Excel displays the full path
name under the Assign Macro function. Unfortately, the
path it adds is not the currently correct one.

It resets the name of the assigned macro to 'C:\Documents
and Settings\Owner\Application
Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART\AIPLSS.XLA'!Macroname. There
is no user called "Owner" on this system, nor this
directory structure.

Just as a side-note, after I used this function once, the
system creates a shortcut to the XLA file - in
the 'Recent' folder. Is this normal for an XLA?

I would love to hear from anyone that has seen this happen
or has suggestions.

Thanks!!

I don't think I've ever seen this problem without having multiple copies of the
..xla file.

You may want to try this.

Start excel (but without your addin).
Tools|Customize
and look for the toolbar name that belongs with the adding
delete it

Now try opening the addin again and see if it works ok.

But if it's possible, I think the easiest solution would be to build the
toolbars in the addin's code. And when you close the addin, then your code
could delete that newly created toolbar.
