XP Pro + Win98se = home network

I've had direct networking (computers directly connected
through separate network cards and crossover cable)
between my computers when they have been running 98 and/or
2000. But I can't seem to get a network between 98 and XP.

I recently had to upgrade one computer to XP Pro for
school. And unfortunately we only have 1 printer that
both computers need access to.

I've tried going into the netcard properties and adjusting
them for networking. I've tried Win XP network wizard.
But I still don't have connection between the two
computers.

Is there something I'm overlooking?

Why not just go purchase a small network hub. It would
make things so much easier. You can get a small hub and
cables for under $50.

Actually, I have a hub already. I just haven't ever been
able to get computers to see each other through the hub
before.

Funny that you mention that though, I was talking to
another friend of mine a bit ago and he asked much the
same question. Guess it is something that I am going to
have to investigate as to how to network through the hub
and still access the internet.

Thanks for the suggestion, though how exactly do you
network through a hub?
