After SP2 installs succesfully, it will not boot after the restart. The
Welcome to XP screen appears for about 30 seconds it goes blank and the
computer stops responding. It will boot in safe mode. I tried to uninstall
SP2, last known configuration, and system restore with no luck

No I had to reinstall Windows XP. I loaded SP2 on another 6 PC's without
issues.

Sorry I tried everything before reinstalling.

This months PC Pro has an article re Enabling & Disabling DEP. It says
Hardware DEP can be completely turned off or disabled for a user-defined
list of applications. Software can't be disabled system wide only for
individual apps. The dialog box is hidden in System Properties, right click
on My Comp and select Properties or select System in Ctrl Panel. Hit the
advanced tab and the Settings button under Performance. You'll see a new tab
entitled Data Execution Prevention in the Performance Options window. To
prevent DEP being enforced for a certain application, hit the Add button and
browse to its program file.

Hope this helps
