XP Pro to XP Pro - File and Printer Sharing

I have one desktop and one laptop both running XP Pro. They are currently sharing internet through a cable modem and a LinkSys Router. I have gone through almost all of the posting on here and I still have not found a successful solution for file and printer sharing. On the desktop I can see both the desktop and laptop. I can only access the desktop files from the desktop. When attempting to access the Laptop shared filed, I receive an error message stating that I may not have permission to use the network resource. The network path was not found. When attempting to access the workgroup from the laptop, it seems to stall and then replies with an error message stating that the workgroup is not accessible, etc. I have also tried the networking wizard several times. I have been working on this for a few days now and have become frustrated. Many of my friends who work with computers and networking have told me how simple this was, hence the upgrade on one computer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello Liz
I mapped this out for David in a post at 5:46AM this
morning go to page 3 and see my post and it will work you
can name the puters and network when you run the wizard.
Hope you find it if not let me know and I will muster up
enough energy to type it again.

Check to see if you have the IPX/SPX protocol installed on both computers. I
have a similar setup and it has worked for me. I posted a note earlier
tonight with more details and you might want to look for that post if your
problem is not solved with the protocol addition.

right click the folder you want shared. click the security
tab. make sure the user name that you want to allow into
that folder is listed. if not click the add button and add
it manually. i do not know what your particular
configuration is, but you might have to create user
accounts for the other on your computers to do this. or if
security is not a concern say in a home situation
give 'EVERYONE' in the access list full control. there are
two places to look. when you right click the folder, in
the dropdown menu you will see a number of selections the
two you want are 'properties' and 'sharing'. properties
will have the security tab and sharing will have a
pemission button. check both of these for proper
permission access. hope this helps

I have an XP Pro machine with a new 80 gig harddrive hardwired to a Lynksys WRT54G wireless router and an XP Home machine wirelessly connected to the same Lynksys WRT54G . I want to be able to share the HP952C printer that is hard wired to the router and be able to share files on the new, extra 80 gig harddrive.
Both machines have great connectivity with the internet but I can't the XP networking wizard to connect the computers to the printer. Any suggestions? How do I find your posting to David at 5:46 am on the 17th
