XP Pro SP2 will not recognize 1394 built in the Intel D915PBL mobo

I have an Intel mobo D915PBL with built in 1394, using P4 3.0Ghz. When I
originally instal XP Pro SP2, it recognized the built in 1394. I installed a
Canopus ADVC-50 in one of the PCI and also detected my Panasonic PV-GS250.
The Network Connections shows the 1394 connections. I was able to capture
both analog and digital videos.

When I reinstall XP Pro, the 1394 did not show in Network Connections. I
formatted my Maxtor HD so it is a clean install. My BIOS shows 1394 is
ENABLED. There is no updates, just the XP Pro SP2. No other applications
either. I tried all the PCI slots for the Canopus and all the 1394 ports for
the Panasonic to see if it gets detected. NO LUCK.

So why would a "clean" install not detect the built in 1394, when it did
before? Hardware issue? Is there a known problem with SP2 regarding Intel
motherboard built 1394?

Appreciate any troubleshooting tips or explanations.

I will try that tonight when I go home.

Just in case, the firewal does not work; here is my main problem: my box
does not detect the built in 1394 bus controller of the Intel D915PBL. I
opened all the options in Device Manager, including Show Hidden Devices.
There is no mention of 1394 in my local registry either.
Local_machine>system>currentcontrolset>enum.

In my orginal set up, it was in the Enum hive is where 1394 showed up.

Could be motherboard 1394 controller? The board is only two months old.
Nothing in the PCI hive either.

I called Intel and I am getting a replacement board. I reinstalled XP Pro
Sp1 and got the same result, so it can't be the software.

Hopefully the replacement mobo will solve my problem. Thanks again. Your
website have lots of info.

Graham,

I got my Intel motherboard back. As I suspected, it was a bad built in
1394 controller. My XP Pro now detects the Canopus ADVC-50. Network
Connections detects it as a 1394 connection and so does Device Manager.

My plan is not to upgrade my BIOS and other 1394 "fixes". Movie Maker,
Roxio, and Nero video capture apps detect the 1394 also.
