XP PRO SP2 Crashes 'Error Caused by a Device Driver'

Hello Group..help!

I'm running XP Pro SP2 on an Asus M/Board with an AMD Athlon XP 1900+ 1.6ghz
and 512 MB RAM; which has started to re-set when it feels like and reports
the following error codes:

BBCode: 00000099 BCP1: 00000000 BCP2: 00000000 BCP3: 00000000 BCP4:
00000000 OSver: 5_1_2600 SP 2.00 Prod 256_1

Windows error reporting on line tells me :

"Error Caused by a Device Driver
Thank you for submitting an error report. Microsoft is unable to
specifically determine what caused the problem you reported. If you would
like to try and troubleshoot the problem, please utilize the information
listed below." [and so on...]

When it restarts it does a disk scan, sometimes it finds a couple files that
have to be repaired, but not always, and not the same files.

Task manager of course shows a load of processes running, but I don't know
what they all are, and which ones are essential, and also I can't tie it to
a particular application. Last time all that was running visibly was I
Explorer and O Express. I also run the latest version of AVG virus checker.

Any ideas as to how I can find the offending driver, or fix the prob would
be most gratefully received.

I had not made any recent changes to the system when it first started
happening, and it had been running stably since 1st install about a year
ago.

The bottom line of such a blue screen usually tells you the driver file
concerned - something.sys
Look for that in Windows\system32\drivers and r-click it, take
Properties, and the Version page will usually tell you what it refers to

I understand what you're telling me but sadly no mention of any specific
..sys file.
I have now turned off the 'automatic re-start' in My Computer system
properties, so I do now get a blue screen, till I reset. This just carries
advice, the same error codes as below [without OSversion and SP details] but
also : PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

Does this give me a clue?

You might want to download memtest86+ and run it to test your RAM:

Not quite end of problem ... but Memtest revealed a load of errors in my RAM
and I'm fairly certain that's where the main problem is -

Also updating drivers for Roxio Easy CD & UDF CD Reader - apparently the
new AVG Virus Checker 7 driver doesn't like the Roxio one

Many thanks for everyone's help.

You're welcome Rog. Yep fix the hardware issues first, then work on
software. Good luck.
