XP pro recent issues

I'm running XP pro. Recently I've been experiencing
errors with microsoft programs such as unresponsive
programs and conflicts. Mostly this happens with
internet explorer, but I've had to reinstall office as
well. Also when XP is loading, the desktop wallpaper
comes up but the icons and taskbar doesn't appear for
about 20 to 30 seconds. Virus scan and spyware checked
out. What could be the problem? Thanks

What changes did you make to the system just before this
started happening? - Install software, or remove it, or
install updates?

If so, try reversing what you did.

Look in Add-Remove Programs for updates that are listed
that can be removed and remove them one at a time to find
out which one is responsible.
