XP Pro Network and Vista

We have an XP Pro network and 2 Vista laptops. Laptop users cannot save
files to the XP server. There is initially a message which says the
permissions are wrong, then files appear to be saved, but are empty when you
open them. Can anyone help?

Have you made all three computers members of the same Workgroup? If not,
please do this. Have you created identical user accounts and passwords
on all three machines? If not, please do this. You can always set your
laptops to login automatically to the desired user account for
convenience. This is done the same way as it was in XP, with control
userpasswords2.
