XP Pro & MS-DOS

Just curious as to why my XP Pro has installed MS-Dos,
though the files are hidden and are of zero size, not
being used I assume.

The files I see on my C Drive are AUTOEXE.BAT,
CONFIG.SYS, IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS and NTDETECT.COM. Then of
course the MS-dos logo shortcut in the Windos folder.

I find this strange cuz XP can't use dos. I did a clean
install from booting my XP Pro from the CD, plus
reformated my NTFS 120 gig hard drive.

I have updated my ASUS motherboard bios to 1004. Another
thing that confuses me is the "Bios" are there 2 of them.
One say Award Bios 6.0 the other is my ASUS P4S8X-X
mother board, which is up to-date.

I'm just curious about this, unless DOS is there so that
my mother board bios can be update with the flash dos
utility if need be. Hummmm, maybe I just answered my own
question.

MY XP is finally running smoothly. I hope. Again, just
curious about the MS-Dos.

Thanks, Christopher

XP install some MS-DOS functionality for Dos Command Prompt window and
Repair console. Also, XP needs serveral DOS files in order to let the
"Create MS DOS boot disk" in the Format floppy options. Also, the files are
there so that older programs can find them.

And your PC doesnt need DOS for flashing
the BIOS. It has EZ-Flash, which makes things
easier. Saves you making a DOS/bootdisk.

I use the same mobo here.
