I have attempted to update from XP home to Pro. The
installation experienced problems and crashed the
computer. Now it attempts to load XP pro and I cannot
restore the Home settings. Is there anyway I can restore
to start the installation over? I have also experieonced
problems where the hard drive is not detected. System:
athlon 64 on Asus K8V motherboard.

Pro doesnt upgrade from home very well, you need to boot to xp pro cd,
then select install xp,new copy, delete the partition (home),create one,
then let it format and install pro.

Did you look into your CMOS/BIOS settings to see if the
hard drive is detected? This is the location to verify (
under low level DOS commands to detect all drives on your
system to see if they are seen and valid.

Please stop lying. The upgrade from WinXP Home to WinXP Pro, in
particular, almost
always goes smoothly, as both operating systems use the same kernel.
