XP Pro & Deskjet install probs

Scots Magpie

Hi all, got a bunch of deskjet 850c and 890c printers from work, they all
used to work fine. At home, XP detects them, starts installation,( on either
of two PC's,) comes up with same problem.

The data is invalid.

Please help, i'm visiting wits end !!

I'm assuming you've been to HP and got the latest driver....?

as underneath my scribble :

When will people learn - HP do not now produce updated drivers for
older printers - anyone with a newer operating system than was current
when the printer was manufactured has to rely on cut down drivers
coming with the new operating system and lose some of the
functionality and economy of the printer. Printers are so reliable
they will go on for years - how else are they going to bully you to
buy new ones!

To the lead poster sorry I cant help with your problem as far as I
know the bundled drivers with WXPpro should work fine. We have used
them with eg. HP660c and they worked and were detected by both W2Kpro
and WXPpro without any problem. Are you sure you have a fully wired
// port cable? And the correct power supply boxes?

Hi, I know Scots magpie, so ambled round. The problem was that her copy of
XP Pro, which was the same one loaded on both pc's, was faulty, in its
delivery of the HP drivers. Re -installed XP Pro, from different copy, all
worked instantly. Just thought I'd post the solution in case anyone has a
similar problem.

( If only she had kept her XP install disc clean ! )
