XP Pro Academic Edition

I'm running Windows 98SE and soon I'm going to switch to XP Pro. I'm a retired academic, technically still faculty, and I've seen "XP Pro Upgrade Academic Edition" advertised at $80-90. My main question is whether or not it's possible to wipe (reformat) my hard drive and use the academic upgrade to install XP Pro as a complete operating system on my computer. I have my Win 98 Installation Disc to "prove" I'm upgrading another version of Windows, but I sure don't want to buy the XP Pro Academic Edition only to find that I can't install XP on a clean (reformatted) hard drive, and I've been reading the Microsoft Site XP installation pages for an hour without finding an answer. If someone has _experience_ doing this with either the academic or another variant "upgrade edition" of XP Pro, I'll be very grateful to you for sharing it with me.

It will work, no problems.

Durning the setup of XP it will ask you to put in the qualifying media, just
insert your 98 CD and it will install.

Hi,
I've been using the the Academic XP version at school for several
computers for over a year now with no problems. It installs XP without a
hitch on a clean drive. Once again, back up your data before beginning any
move.

Thanks very much for your advice. You've saved me the cost
of a black computer case!
