Unable to correctly configure XP to Print to file. In the
set up XP does not print a test page. When I try to print
a document to file , it puts a file on my desktop that I
am unable to open ! When I try to open I get a dialogue
box that informs me that windows does not know which
program created the document and is there fore unable to
open it. Can anybody help me with this problem or give me
some direction ?

"Print to file" is made so you can save something that
will actually be printed on a different printer (like if
you took it to a commercial printer or gave it to a
friend with a PostScript printer). In order to do this,
you have to know what type of printer the document will
actually be printed on and make that selection at the
time you select the 'print to file' option. Failing to do
this is what's giving you the error msg. Is that your
intention - to have the project printed elsewhere? If
not, you don't want or need to print to file. And if not,
what exactly are you trying to do?

feature where you can install a generic printer, you can
print to file, open it in a wordprocessing program,
change it around if you want and then save it. You can
then print it or just keep it on your hard drive. the
text you are saving to file could come from anywhere you
want IE. a program that you may be running or another
source !
