XP Power off PC Question

When Powering off the PC for the night - as per usual procedure - via
"start" - when I click the Shutdown - or iz that Power off?
whatever.... the first time doesnt seem to have any effect, but do it
again ~ and it shut's down ok - just a bit peculiar!!?? anyone had
this ~ or know of the cause?(and fix)~ Minor, though slightly
annoying.
