XP Outlook Error message "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook..."

I recently loaded Microsoft Office XP 2002. I used Outlook all the time in
my previous Office version and had large contacts, calendar, saved e-mail
folders. When trying to open Outlook in XP, it said that it couldn't link me
to my folders and shut down. Now when I try to open Outlook, it gives me an
error that reads "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Could not open the item.
Try again." I did a little online research on other websites and heard that
it might have something to do with a missing secur32.dll file; however, I
don't know how to add or replace that file.

I'm not sure what to do but I really need those old contacts, calendar, and
e-mail folders. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dustin

You may be able to straighten out the profile from Control Panel>Mail. Make
sure your profile points to the correct PST.

Thanks for the help, Brian. I tried linking my PST file but I get another
error that tells me that my PST is not compatible with this version of
Personal Folders information service. I'm not sure how to get around that.

With what version of Outlook was the old PST created?

I found my answer. I actually created the PST file in Outlook 2003. I
installed Office 2002 after losing my 2003 disc (long story, don't ask).
What I found out, and I sure you were one step away from telling me is that
PST files created in 2003 are not compatible with earlier versions of
Outlook. Different code I guess. So I'll just need to purchase Outlook 2003
and install to get my old PST file back. Thanks for your help.
