xp original theme problem

Guest

i just installed windows xp pro and it worked well, then i modified the theme
in "appearance". after i restarted for the first time after i have done this,
everything went black except the icons. i managed to change back to "windows
classic" theme and it worked well. i tryed to change back to "windows xp" but
it only changes the desktop background and the appearance stays in "windows
classic"

how can i restore this ? i have already
visited:http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
and when i click the "restore themes functionality" it tell me to either
open or save. i tryed "open" but it asks me this : "are you sure you want to
add the information in
E:\Domcume~1\admini~1.ern\locals~1\thempor~1\content.ie5\01234567\restor~1.reg to the registry?
[yes] [no]"
after i click yes, it confirms that it has succesfully done it but i'm not
sure if this is correct or should i "save" this file? and if so, where?

thanks in advance.

Try this: Click your Start button/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore

When the System Restore utility opens, select the option: Restore my computer to an
earlier time, then click the NEXT button. The next window will be divided into two panes.
On the left is a calendar pane. Click on a bold date (Bold dates contain Restore Points)
as close to, but PRIOR to the problem. After selecting the Restore Point for that date in
the right pane, continue with the wizard until it has finished and your system reboots.
taking you back to the system settings of the date that you chose. Hopefully the above
will fix the problem. System Restore will effect your data files, just Windows XP system
files and settings. If you have installed any software, drivers, or updates between the
date of the Restore Point that you chose and today, you will have to reinstall those
things.

on the restore section where there is the calendar, this will only give me
one restore point or date wich is today (the 13) then i selected the earlier
restore section , indeed it restarted and restored the computer. i
inmediately went to check the theme selection and the 'windows xp' was
selected but what i get is classic view ( my task bar, windows colors are in
the classic theme).
it is now as if i haven't done any restore since the only date i could
choose was today. is there other way to fix my problem? is this a major
problem that would require me to reinstall windows xp or can this be fixed?

Your response was not clear. If you mean that there was no other Restore Point available
but one for today in which the problem already exists, then you are out of luck as far as
a quick fix using System Restore. It's odd that you should only have one Restore Point
though. Windows should be auto-creating Restore Points (named System Check Points when
auto-created) approximately every 24 or so hours of system up time.

.. . . . until you went messing around into stuff you didn't understand,
and now you want someone to bail you out of your self-created mess.

Format and reinstall. That should teach not to play with things you
don't know how to put back right on your own!
