XP or2000 for video

Hi all, At risk of being flamed for posting off topic I seek your opinion.

Coming from 95 I have just acquired a new comp with XP Pro. My uses are
simple to the extreme. Just Express/Messenger and Publisher along with photo
file storage. I am seeking the simplest idiot proof system. With the only
proviso that it be stable and won't hang up, drop out, freeze etc.etc. I am
trying to interest my wife into editing accumulated video on the revamped
old unit. She is 0/10 computer savvy.

The local wizard waxes lyrical about 2000 for the above reasons but others
seem to suggest XP for its simplicity.
Q. Do I install 2000 for her and stay XP for me or both 2000 or XP.?
Being not too familiar with these things I seek your suggestions.

Cheers and thanks. Otzi.

I don't see this as off topic... So I'd hope no one would dream of flaming
you for asking it!

Windows XP is essentially an update and improvement on Windows 2000 (Windows
2000 is version 5.0 of it's "family" and XP is 5.1). As such, XP should be
*at least* as reliable as 2000, assuming you are using properly compatible
hardware and software in both cases.

I'd expect either to work just fine for the purposes you describe, and as
such, I'd pick Windows XP because it is a little easier to use in my
opinion, and tends to integrate its multimedia abilities into the system in
a slightly smoother way than 2000. Certainly, XP is the platform of choice
for the Windows machines in our music and TV recording studios at the
college I work for (We also use Macs, but thats another whole ball game
again and not what you asked for..)

I hope that helps a little.
