Phil Sanders

I have XP on my laptop and have my 65" widescreen TV as the ext monitor,
Desktop shows fine, but no Icons and Screensaver won't work, Is this Normal
or do I have a setting wrong?? Thinking of buying a Video card with Dual
Ports for my Desktop PC, but before I do I wanted to make sure everything
would work....

TIA

Phil

Hi there,

Does your cursor show up on both screens? If not then
you're extending your desktop onto your TV. Right-click
on your desktop and select "Properties". Under the
settings tab, you'll see two monitors and their relative
positions to each other. Monitor 1 is your primary
monitor (i.e. your laptop screen). See if you can move
your mouse in the direction of the other screen and move
it "off" the laptop screen in that direction (Basically,
if monitor 2 is to the right of monitor 1, move your
mouse as far to the right as possible). The mouse should
now appear on your TV.

If you want to simply project what you see on your laptop
screen on your TV, under the Settings menu, remove the
checkmark that says "Extend my Windows desktop onto this
monitor".

Just a note about projecting your laptop screen onto your
TV. You mentioned that your TV is widescreen. You might
have to do some adjustments to the resolution that you
output onto the TV to make sure that the image doesn't
get distorted.

Play around with the settings in that menu to see what
works best. If at any time you apply a new setting and
everything goes black on both screens, DON'T TOUCH
ANYTHING. Windows will automatically revert you back to
your previous settings in 15 seconds if you don't touch
anything.

Hope this helps,

Nick
