xp oem HOME mobo died... can i upgrade to xp retail PRO?

The pc was rebooting itself.... damn i hate being the last one to 'touch it'
before they croak.
well at least the caps are bulging and starting to leak so i have an alibi.

I have to save the hard drive AS IS because of special software and nobody
can find the program or xp cd's.
they only can find xp office cd's. otherwise I'd just reinstall and
transfer data.
So I am proposing to change the mobo and do an inplace upgrade to xp retail
pro.
Or should I stick with a new copy of xp oem home and do an inplace upgrade?

I've found an EXACT matching mobo but it won't be available until tuesday
and that is too far away.

Thanks in advance.

and what do you think xp is going to say when it sees a new motherboard?
obviously I am going to take the hd out and install it in the new pc.
my questions is again is,
A> change the mobo and do an inplace upgrade to xp retail pro.
B> buy a new copy of xp oem home and do an inplace upgrade?
Thanks.

Either one should work. Make sure the service pack level is the same or
higher than the install on the hard drive. Make sure you have a backup of
the existing hard drive before attempting the repair install.
