XP Not Recognizing Speakers

My computer just crashed and I had to have XP reinstalled. I've been
able to reload everything, except for the speakers. They worked fine
before (I just plugged them into the jack and they played), but now
when I go to "Sound and Audio Devices", Windows won't recognize the
speakers. I don't have any drivers/ cd for the speaker set. I tried
troubleshooting through Windows, but it didn't do much. I think it's a
problem with the sound card getting lost in the reinstallation. Is
there any way to reactivate the card/ see what drivers, if any, I'm
missing?
Thanks

You reinstalled xp, but did you install mobo chipset and other drivers?
They would have been supplied with your PC/mobo and other devices
