XP not recognizing ipod

whenever i plug in my ipod the computer doesn't read it....i already
contacted microsoft and they sent me a file WindowsXP-KB893249-x86-ENU.exe
and im waiting for a new password for it but last time i unzipped it, it gave
me a folder named symbol and i have no idea where to place the folder to make
the fix work....can someone give me a push in the right direction here????

Tried using iTunes ?

of course....nothing shows up the ipod doesn't even say "do not disconnect" its like im plugging nothing into the computer at all and it can't be my USB ports cause i plug in other things and they work just fine.....microsoft has acknoleged that one of their updates actually gets rid of a certain file needed to make the computer read the ipod and they offer a fix for it if you ask them but what i need to know is where does the file go

well i know the answer but its not with microsoft,i cant put it on the
net,fat cat bill gates you know the score,but if you surf hard enouigh you
will find the alternative site to download the program that will solve your
problem and let you download allmost anything from everywhere.sorry i cant
tell more on the open forum,but its out there so find it i did in30 mins.
