XP Not Booting Without CD

C

cuoops

I just installed a new Hitachi DK23EA-30 on an Inspiron 1100. The same
model drive that came out of it. I let the XP format the drive(fast
and slow and from recovery console..three different installations).
The installations worked but the computer will not boot to xp without
the install disk in the cdrom. This is a full version of Windows XP. I
tried bootfix and fixmbr but that did not work. The bios shows the
drive. Without the XP disk in, the screen says "no bootable disk
found". I have no jumper on the drive. That makes is master or
single. I tried all different jumpers but XP would not install any
other way. The boot order is cd/dvd, diskette drive, internal drive,
usb, cardbus nic, onboard nic. I can’t change the boot order. It says
"configure setup is disabled". I need a password to change it on the
bios page for passwords: the configure setup password. I made a bios
password but that didn’t help. I guess Dell put a password in it. I
upgrade the bios but this boot problem was happening with the old one
too. I’ve installed the chipset drivers, upgraded the bios, installed
the notebook system software, video and graphic software. I’m stumped
on this one. Unless there is a problem with the board or something
that’s not letting it boot from the drive. I thought of reseting the
bios but it’s not easy to get to and you have to short it out.

Boot Windows once using your bootable CD. Open Computer Management by
right-clicking on My Computer and choose Manage. Expand to Disk Management
and make sure that Partition is set to Active where Windows is installed.

If it already is then you need to reset the BIOS. BIOS can be reset into
ways. First and the common one is: Turn off your PC and unplug power plug and
removing the CMOS batter carefully. Around after 10 mintues when it discharge
put it again and check if you can change the BIOS settings.

Second one is: locate the jumper near to your CMOS Battery. Called CMOS
jumper. Has 3 pin with jumper in 2 pins. Turn off your computer and unplug
power switch. Remove the jumper from 1-2 pin and put it into 2-3 and after 1
second put it back on 1-2. Turn on the PC and see if it helps you.
