XP no longer burns to DVD+R media

Around three weeks ago, my computr stopped burning to DVD+R media, it will burn to +RW but no longer to + R. The info gets placed on the DVD, but it will not play on any DVD player, PS2 or my computer. Microsoft is saying it that Windows XP home has a problem, and I need to upgrade. I've been using the same system to burn for over 6 months. Then one day it all goes haywire. Have one else having this problem?

Windows XP doesn't include the ability to let you burn DVD's. It's either
going to be a problem with the drive itself or with the software you are
using to burn ad/or the settings in the software.
