XP logon error

M

Mike LJ

Can someone explain this ?

Installed new Windows 2003 domain controller (DHCP, DNS, ADS etc etc).
Created 2 user accounts (Student and Teacher) in Active Directory
Joined a Dell laptop running XP Pro to the domain - no problems
Created profiles for both Student and Teacher accounts on the laptop whilst
connected to the network

Took the laptop off-network, expecting to be able to log in as either
Student or Teacher with cached profile (albeit with no connection to
anything)

Student id - logs in ok
Teacher id - get message "system cannot log you in now because domain XXXX
is unavailable !!

I'm sure that I'm missing something abvious here, and would be grateful if
someone could point out what ...
The laptop is running with a Truemobile wireless 54g card

Credentials are only cached after the first successful login while the
laptop is connected to the network. I am guessing that you logged in as
Student at some point while the laptop was still connected to the network.
Later, when the computer was no longer on the network, you could log in as
Student using the credentials that were cached the first time around.

So, to solve your problem:

1) connect the laptop to the network
2) login as Teacher (credentials will now be cached)
3) Disconnect laptop from network
4) You should now be able to login again as Teacher

Hope this helps!
