XP Internet Connection Sharing

Alan

Hi

I have 2 PC's networked together. Host PC is running XP and Client is
running Win ME. I have ICS enabled and have turned off the firewalls
(both XP and ZoneAlarm)

Both the Host and Client can access files on each other.

I am having a problem accessing the Internet from the Client PC.

setup is:

Host PC - 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0

Client PC - 192.168.0.2
Subnet mak - 255.255.255.0
Default Gatway - 192.168.0.1

When I try to access any url through IE on the Client I get the "Page
cannot be displayed error"

I have tried the following commands on the Client

1) ping 192.168.0.1
2) ping 216.239.39.100
3) ping www.google.com

1 and 2 get four responses and work fine.

Number 3 gets the error message "Unknown Host www.google.com"

Since pinging 216.239.39.100 worked fine I tried to access the address
http://216.239.39.100 in IE - this failed however.

Can anybody help please??

The client PC needs a DNS server address -- either 192.168.0.1 or your
ISP's DNS server.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools | Internet Options | Connections |
LAN Settings and clear all of the boxes on that screen.
