XP Installation over ME lost files

I installed XP full version over ME this past weekend. I
had been receiving an error message that explorer.exe was
missing and I had to reinstall windows. I did not have
the ME program CD, as the computer came with ME
preinstalled. I bought XP and installed it. After
installation, I discovered that all of my program files
were gone, including Office XP. I have lost all of my
contacts and journal entries which I thought had been
saved. All of my other Office generated files that were
saved in other folders are intact.

Does Office save contact and journal entries someplace
where they are recoverable? Thanks.

do a search for *.pst and check the file size. The .pst
file should have a date prior to your windows XP load, and
then you can simply go to File --> import--> from .pst--->
choose what to import and voila, should be all back. You
want to make sure the .pst file is prior to the upgrade of
windows or you'll probably be looking at your current one
without the contacts and journal.

I agree with your reply except for the importing part :) A better method
would be for the OP to simply open his .PST file in Outlook using File |
Open | Outlook Data File. Importing can be flaky, and there shouldn't be
any need to import from Outlook's native file format anyway...just like you
wouldn't try to import a Word doc into Word :)
