XP installation of AVG went a bit mad

HI

Tried to install the free XP on a repaired machine, wouldnt install due to
some currupted files, sorted that

Once installed ok i ran a virus check, soon after i got a big blue screen
saying serious Machine_Check_Exeption and it would reboot

tried again a few times and same fault so had to uninstall.

I followed the XP links back to the MS website and it said something to do
with the Pent 1.8 chip and something else(forget what) but hardware related
etc, now i know v little about XP, not too keen on it but installed AVG fine
on other XP machines, abiet all AMD.

I like AVG, nice and simple but had to install 30 day trial of NOD32 which
flagged up a huge amount of false positves and some other free one, which
found other viruses, but when showing the owners when i took the pc back how
to update the av updates i found it much more complex than the AVG one.

I guess there is no way to get AVG installed and running ok is there?

thanks

Could you please have a long think about what you're trying to say and
rewrite your post so we can actually make sense of it?

I would suggest de-linking what appears to be a system error from choosing
AV package.

You'll probably find that the whole business of repairing PC's proceeds far
easier with a little more attention to detail.
