XP install loop

Dog this is embarrassing...

New HD, retail version of XP.

Keeps looping back to Setup when, according to MS, eldergeek, and
Thurrott, it should reboot to the GUI stage.

A couple days ago I realized I haven't installed a retail version of
Win since v98.

Can I get a bitch slap...?

If the drive is a SATA you probably have to load the drivers from a CD
or Floppy disk.
At the very beginning of Setup it says to use F6 if you have to load
any special drivers.

Sorry, duh; I figgered this would be commonly encountered (even though
I couldn't find any reference to it, anywhere) and so was a tad too
brief.

It's an IDE, WD1200BB "Caviar". The OS is retail XP Pro SP1.

The machine is a 2005 model desktop, P4 2.8 GHz.

From what I could glean this should be a pretty simple process, but
instead of rebooting to the XP GUI to complete the install it loops
back to the initial Setup.

Not the damnedest thing I've ever seen, but my memory has become so
finely honed that I can remember shit that never happened.

Solution: Remove jumper during install. Booted right up.

I sure didn't see that coming.
